Install Microsoft Data Protection Manager 2012

Simple Instructions
- Install the server with Windows 2012 (X64) Standard R2
- Attach the server to an Active Directory domain
- Perform all Windows Updates
- Ensure .NET 4.0 for 3.5 are installed
- Download the installation media
- Install SQL 2012 SP1
- Update SQL 2012 to SP2
- Install DPM 2012 R2
- Update DPM 2012 R2 to Latest Rollup
SQL Installation
- Product key should be automatically populated
- SQL Server feature installation -> Select All
- Shared feature directory : D:\Microsoft SQL Server\
- Shared feature directory (x86) : D:\Microsoft SQL Server (x86)\
- Default Instance -> Instance ID : MSSQLSERVER
- Instance Root Directory : D:\Microsoft SQL Server\
- Although all has been configured for D:, disk space requirement for C: will show as 5010MB, safe to ignore.
- Change SQLSERVERAGENT to running on a domain account.
- Change MSSQLSERVER to running on a domain account.
- Change ReportServer to running on a domain account.
- Install SQL in Mixed Mode, create a SA account in TechDB.
- Add users into SQL Administrators : %DOMAIN%\graphite.rack, %DOMAIN%\ukfast.support
- Add users into Analysis Services : %DOMAIN%\graphite.rack, %DOMAIN%\ukfast.support
- Reporting Services : Install and configure.
- Add users into Distributed Replay Controller service : %DOMAIN%\graphite.rack, %DOMAIN%\ukfast.support
- Distributed Replay Client Controller Name : MSSQLSERVER
- No Error Reporting
- Once installation has completed, run Windows Updates again.
DPM Installation
- Run the installation media
- On the Prerequisites check select "Use the dedicated instance of SQL server" (unless you plan on having a remote instance of SQL).
- Enter the hostname of the DPM Server and click Check.
- Restart server after Prerequisites check
- Run the installation media
- On the Prerequisites check select "Use the dedicated instance of SQL server" (unless you plan on having a remote instance of SQL).
- Enter the hostname of the DPM Server and click Check.
- On the Product registration page enter the product key
- On the Installation settings page change the Installation location to a large partition (D:\DPM). You will need to make the DPM folder.
- The next pages are all default and the installation should proceed...
- Perform Windows Updates
Post Installation Tasks
- Ensure the DC have connected the storage disks.
- Confirm they appear in Disk Management, the disk is Online and Initialized but not formatted.
- Open DPM Console -> Click Management -> Click Disks and then click Add
- Add the required disk(s). (Initialise as GPT if over 2TB)
- Add Target Servers to Domain
- Management -> Agents -> Install -> Deploy to Domain Controller and Target Servers.
- Create Protection Groups
- Shares and Volumes
- System States
- SQL Instances
